Architects have long been designing off land and on the sea.
The Ocean Emerald
The first in a series of yachts, this sleek 41 meter yacht designed by Fosters and Partners is undeniably architectural in form with beautiful proportions. Not new to luxury design, Lord Norman Foster implements luxury design into the interiors of the yacht to create a fresh style that is contemporary, timeless and technologically advanced. What is notably innovative in this design is that this yacht offers 30% more outdoor space than a conventional yacht.
Unique Circle Yachts
The concept for this 128 meter yacht was created in collaboration with Blohm and Voss engineers. The sinuous shape of this yacht connects the upper structure of the yacht to the different decks. The shape also takes into consideration the need for being hydrodyanmic in form and structure while providing comfortable spaces within.
Foggy
In Gehry like fashion, his signature wavy shapes can be seen both in the inside and on the deck. Lattices with glass inserts on the deck allows the sunlight to reach inside the deck into the living and sleeping areas within the hull. Inside the hull is very warm with wood paneled walls with rich rugs throughout.
On the deck, curved seats become part of the yacht where they are carved into the sides. Signature Ghery moves can also be found on the 2 steering wheels, made with criss-crossed wooden strips.
Venus - Steve Job's last project
This yacht was Steve Job's last project. Collaborating with Philippe Stark on Venus, this 80 meter long ship has an aluminum exterior with large panels of glazing, similar to Apple's stores and notebook. This superyacht contains 6 bedrooms with a high tech home automation system to communicate with his home back on land. Another iMac moment is found in a row of 27" iMac screens at the captain's control center or called the wheelhouse in the case of a yacht.
What was controversial was that this yacht was seized due to non-payment however, it is reported that now it belongs to Job's widow, Laurene Powell.
Schwinge Tetrahedron Superyacht
This pyramid shaped modern yacht seems to float on water when accelerated due to its hydrofoil technology. It was the designer's intent in forming the shape in a tetrahedron geometry for speed in order to create that floating affect. The technology used to lift this ship above the water's surface is called Hydrofoil Small Waterplane Area Ship (HYSWAS) propulsion. Also, the carbon-fiber superstructure combined with stainless steel makes this yacht very sturdy.
Don't let all the futuristic elements of this yacht fool you, it is intended to be a super luxurious yacht to have all the luxury in interiors as one would expect and can carry 6 passengers and 4 crew members at a time.
Seaorbiter Vessel
This mega super yacht is atypical in the sense that it has a 6 story building that comes with it and can accommodate 18-22 researchers. This vessel is used for marine scientists to study the relationships between the seas and the earth's climate, where they can now spend 24 hours a day under water with this temporary fully packed home on sea. The material used is recycled aluminum weighing 500 tons and is 58 meters high.
This vessel travels with the ocean's currents and harvest energy from the world's energy source - the sun, wind and waves.
