As an addition to existing old school buildings, this two theater hall cinema and arts center was built as a shed-like building in style. While the main program is cinema, this facility can also host screenings of sports events, and exhibitions in a large gallery space, located at the back of this annex.
The main design intent was to keep and restore the original building and materials as much as possible to remain contextual to the adjacent buildings, while adding a balanced contrast that still compliments the existing conditions. This is evident in the use of red cedar wood planks cladding the facade to softly contrast against the adjacent Victorian buildings.
Also as an ode to the original structure, the architects opened up the views at the roof to capture the church tower that looks directly over the site as it had before.
