This building, located in a traditional water village in China, proved challenging to design; the goal was to create two separate theaters of 1200 and 600 seats each. The solution was to create two different theater areas sharing one single stage; the architects composed these two areas by designing two overlapping oval shapes inspired by twin lotus flowers- which share one single stem. The theaters can be identified by their facade configurations: one sports an hermetical facade while the other hides behind a fan-like structure, a nod to the traditional screen window pattern.
The assistants reach the theaters either through a wooden bridge or by boats, which add to the whole experience.
