This gallery mixes two very different styles: the rustic, pre-existent, exposed brick building and a tensile organic contemporary structure added by Hadid. The pre-existent building, known as The Magazine, started its life as a gunpowder storage in 1805 and had been used as a miscellaneous storage building for the park since 1963. Its vaults used for storing gunpowder are now holding spaces for works of art.
The new addition, whose organic shape clashes gracefully with the magazine building, is almost an art piece of its own, and it holds a congregation space that doubles as an exhibition room and a cafe. The pillars holding the structure also act as light fixtures and space separators.
