This gallery, built in an urban infill, uses light as its primordial design element: a terracotta perforated facade to create a light taming screen and a series of slits on the roof let a stronger light come in. The screens not only control light, they control the view- as the project is located on a very busy street in the district of Dong Da the screens create the illusion of isolation, without compromising daylight; they also provide passive ventilation to the gallery and shade from harsh direct light, thus cooling the inside. At night, the building illuminates from the inside, making it look like a lantern.
