Designed for the client's mother who was living in a severely dilapidated home, the architects designed a low-cost building in just ten months. The brilliance of this project can be seen in the initial project management phase, such as the simultaneous building of foundations and retaining walls while demolishing the old house entirely during the first 4 months to speed up the construction schedule.
Another smart move was that the architects left the structural concrete blocks exposed, resulting in elegantly textured walls in uniform cream/grey throughout the interiors as well as the exteriors. The positioning of the centralized courtyard is also clever. This courtyard is meant to provide a buffer between the public and the private areas of the home.
