This wedding chapel is part of Bella Vista Sakaigahama Hotel's garden in Onomichi in Hiroshima. The ribbon-ing form of 2 spirals meeting serves as a metaphor for 2 souls unifying together with heaven serving as their witness. This wedding chapel spirals up to the top where at the top, visitors can overlook the Inland Sea of Japan.
The free standing structure is created below the space where the 2 spirals meet, creating a core space in between the spirals until they meet at the top. This is where the main wedding chapel or wedding hall is located. The materials had to be light in order to minimize the weight of the structure so zinc alloy, wood panels, glass panels held with dot point glazing (DPG) arms with a pendulum-type base isolation device were cleverly used throughout the building.
