A new facility for the center for studying Middle Eastern culture at St. Antony's College, one of Oxford's colleges. Zaha Hadid designed the building to look contemporary while still being contextual to the scale and massing of the surrounding existing buildings, respecting the history of the campus that is from the Victorian-era convent and the 1970's Brutalist-style library called the Hilda Besse Building.
The architect chose smooth curving form that gradually changes in height around a century old Sequoia tree. The material used for the form is mirrored stainless-steel facade. Also, accompanying this material are some large expanses of glazing function as windows while others are back painted. Where the mirrored stainless steel facade are mostly storage, reading rooms and offices while glazed areas accommodates a multi-purpose gallery space.
Inside, one can find oak veneer boards that are combined with perforated acoustic panels to line the walls in several rooms. Also notable is that there are 25 skylights.
