Design Icon Paul Wiseman on Creating Authentic Interiors

Joy
SAVE

Interior design trends seem to appear out of thin air. First, they are spotted in popular design magazines and blogs, then (with a bit of patience) in local shops, and eventually, sold at mass (think of the marble takeover of 2016). In reality, these trends don't appear out of thin air, but are masterminded by select designers with their finger on the pulse of today's--and tomorrow's--trends.

One of these masterminds is Paul Wiseman, Founder and Principal of The Wiseman Group, one of the country's top interior design firms. Wiseman recently sat down with The Modern Architect to discuss his experience in establishing his renowned firm; his unique approach to interiors; and his goals for upcoming projects.

Wiseman began the San Francisco firm in 1980 and has developed a reputation for incorporating local history and contemporary designs into authentic spaces that possess with true functionality.

Paul Wiseman, Founder and Principal of The Wiseman Group

"I get to do what I want to do and call it work."

The ability to reflect the persona of a room through components such as color, texture, and raw materials is an inherent talent--one that is exemplified through the diversity within Paul's projects.

For Wiseman, integrating elements that speak to the client's character and vision is absolutely essential. He feels that if he can create a space where people feel at ease and in touch with their environment, they will go off into the world and do great things. With the assistance of his team of polished designers, Wiseman is consistently sourcing quality pieces that accumulate into stunningly curated spaces.

Aside from his design work, Paul has a desire to see the world and travels often. This passion can be counted as extracurricular, as much of his work is inspired by the locations he visits and the versatility that surrounds international design.
