There are some ways to curve timber. However, I would refer the use of Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL). This is a durable wood product which is mainly utilized for the structural application. Stability and strength wise it can be compared to concrete and steel. The secret behind its stability lies in the alignment of each veneer grain in the same direction. This makes LVL stronger, uniform and straighter than any solid timber.
The ability to cut different shapes and the added durability from being an engineered product make allows it to be used in innovations using angular and curved shapes. Other uses of LVL in permanent structural applications include beams, lintels, purlins, truss chords and formwork. Thus, the use of LVL is an assurance of a strong, curvy and stylish structure. With its allowance of production of any length and its spanning ability for longer distances than standard timber, it can be used in the construction of structures that can accommodate huge masses of people.
The finishing after the utilization of the LVL doesn't require much since its vintage appearance is still attractive to the eye. However, for a more charming look, one can apply paint on it. This eliminates the boring plain wood appearance and gives it life. Color, as we know, is used to enhance the appearance of a place thus it is used to complement a design giving it a more appealing finish. The cost of LVL beams depend on the length of the shaft and are subjected to change depending on the season and where a client is situated. The size of the LVL varies from 1-3/4 X 7-1/4" - 12' LVL BEAM to 1-3/4" X 20" - 24' LVL BEAM which costs $38 and $215 respectively.
