Described as North Americas premier showcase for contemporary design the annual ICFF, or International Contemporary Furniture Fair was held this year in New York over four days at the Javits Center boasting 165,00 square feet (15,300 m/s) of floor space, over which more than 26,000 Interior Designers, Architects, Retailers, Designers, Manufacturers, Representatives, Distributors and Developers explored upwards of 500 exhibitors, showcasing furniture to textiles, commercial interiors to kitchen and bath. Each day showcased a selection of exciting workshops and the fair goers could explore demonstrations that ran to a strict schedule.
There was a truly eclectic mix of exhibitors, and strong international representation (30 different countries), which was great to see. There were 230 first time exhibitors, 297 US and 273 Non-US showing that the ICFF is internationally respected and admired as well as being seen as a current and innovative fair that attracts new exhibitors.
In keeping with its innovative and current appeal, the ICFF this year placed new technologies at the heart of its programme, featuring 3D printing and digital fabrication through a four-day series of workshops to introduce the hardware and software that is set to change the face of design, manufacturing and distribution.
We sent along one of our most valuable team members Doris, to see what all the fuss was about and here is a quick rundown of how she found the ICFF, whom she met, and what she saw. She has included some great images of her favorite products, booths and brands for you to have a look at as well- and she got a great clip of a 3d printer in action too!
The Round-up: Doris Kertesz
The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) was nothing short of eye candy for those with a love for design. Over 500 exhibitors from around the globe, the most beautiful furniture, home accessories, flooring, wall coverings and kitchen and bath were there to see. It was great to catch up with many of our existing clients as well as the opportunity to chat with many other manufacturers who are looking to convert their existing files to BIM.
Some off the most memorable booths were:
Graff; an avant-garde manufacturer of trend setting kitchen and bath fixtures. Their designs are cutting edge yet luxurious.
Lefroy Brooks; always a pleasure to see Warren and Myrna! Individual yet classic design in a class of its own. My personal favorite is the 1950 Belle Aire collection
Caesarstone; an incredible booth design as always-this one was an award winner in Milan!
Duravit; beautiful contemporary design, they now have their first stand alone showroom in NYC on Madison Ave.
Hansgrohe; thanks to Claudia for giving me the scoop on the new Axor Starck Organic collection. It's their 5th collection with Starck. This collection was built on a user concept-organically inspired, taking us back to nature. Timeless design and environmentally friendly.
Maker Bot; 3D printing-welcome to the future!
Blanco; A 3rd generation company based in Germany, Blanco had a beautiful booth displaying exquisite faucets and sinks. Thanks for your time Tim!
Victoria & Albert; this British company was showcasing a beautiful display of freestanding tubs. All that was missing was the bubbles!
Quick I know, but its impossible to get everything down on paper! Such a great show, fantastic displays and even better people. So long NYC see you all at the AIA in Denver next month!
So Doris had a blast by the sounds, Im just a bit jealous But as she mentioned the next show we have coming up is AIA in Denver. Were already planning some exciting meet and greets for this as I write so keep an eye on the inbox for an invite as well as via twitter and facebook as we will be looking to give some loyal followers a place over the coming month.
So thats it from us on ICFF, until next year!
One final note- if this year it was 3D printing, what can we expect as the next big thing in 2014- any ideas?
