Facebook is planning to expand their campus! After their IPO on the stock market, Facebook has decided to add to its campus by building a huge new addition designed by world-renowned architect, Frank Gehry.
The new extension hopes to hold up to 2,800 engineers once completed in a few years time. The building itself is like one big warehouse, with open plan living, where desks are able to be moved around, but where break-away spaces with whiteboards and couches are still available. It will also house several cafes and micro-kitchens and have an underground tunnel linking the new and old campus building! There is also an emphasis on being 'green', with plenty of surrounding trees and a rooftop garden that spans the whole building!
We would love to see the progress of design and construction. No doubt we will see the use of BIM in designing and documenting this greatly anticipated building (but maybe not as anticipated as Apple's HQ!), specifically Gehry Technologies' Digital Project.
